Wedding Shot List Guide

Your wedding day will go by quickly, and my goal is to capture it in a way that feels natural, emotional, and true to you. A shot list helps me prioritize what matters most—without turning your day into a checklist.

WHAT TO INCLUDE

Think of this as your “must not miss” list, not a full schedule of photos.

LET'S GET STARTED!

This is the most helpful part of your shot list. You could include: - Immediate family groupings (e.g., couple grandparents, couple with groom's parents, couple with bride's parent etc.) - Friend Groups - Any sensitive family dynamics I should be aware of Tips: Keep it realistic (8–12 groupings is ideal) Assign a family member or friend who knows everyone to help gather people quickly

Every wedding is different—let me know if any of these are especially important to you: - First look (or no first look) - Private vows or letters - Cultural or religious traditions - Speeches or surprise elements - Special dances or performances

These are often the little things that carry a lot of meaning: - Heirloom jewelry or accessories - Invitations, stationery, or custom décor - Gifts exchanged - Anything you’ve put extra thought into

PINTEREST BOARD

Feel free to share a small Pinterest board to @melissataphotography of a few images that reflect your vibe:

  • Romantic / editorial / candid / fun
  • Lighting styles you love
  • Posing styles you’re drawn to

This helps me understand your vision, but I won’t be recreating exact shots—I’ll tailor everything to your day.

WHAT YOU DON’T NEED TO DO

You don’t need to:

  • Create a long Pinterest checklist
  • Plan every pose or moment
  • Worry about how to stand or what to do

I’ll guide you through everything so you feel comfortable and look natural.

MY APPROACH

I photograph weddings with a mix of:

  • Candid storytelling (real, unscripted moments)
  • Gently guided portraits (natural, flattering direction)
  • Thoughtful details (the in-between moments you might not notice)

Your shot list ensures nothing important is missed, while still leaving space for genuine moments to unfold.

Please try to submit your shot list at least 2 weeks before your wedding or before your venue walk through with me so I can build it into your timeline.

FINAL TIP

If everything feels important, nothing stands out. Focus on the people and moments that matter most—that’s where the magic is.
